It is the most distant and most "high altitude" crag of the Val Pennavaire (it is almost 1400 meters above sea level). Why should you come to this place so far? Because there are beautiful gray walls, compact and sticking limestone: you will have the sensation of climbing on the alpine limestone, those of highest quality, such as the Swiss ones. So, the prevailing kind of climbing is on a vertical wall, where is required a technical fingers and feet work. But the menù is wide, because in the cave on the right (the "Arma”), you can also use the big muscles. In the area there are several chances for NO BIG climbing, cause the presence of many routes of grade 5 and 6. The surrounding environment is bucolic, like high mountain, but you can see the sea: in fact the crags are exposed to the south, sunny all day; they are enjoyable in the middle seasons, and even in winter, with the snow at the base, but the rock is often dry (and if you want, even in summer, if you are a fan of the tan ..). Another reason to come here is the Rifugio Pian dell'Arma, starting point to access the walls and to do other sporting activities (Nordic walking, trekking, mtb), but above all famous for its excellent cuisine.

Approach

From Cisano sul Neva reach Martinetto and turn left, entering the Pennavaire Valley. Go through the villages of Castelbianco, Nasino, Alto and Caprauna and continue on the SP 216 towards Colle di Caprauna (the pass at top of the Pennavaire Valley). Just before the pass of Colle di Caprauna, you will find on the right the sign indicating "Rifugio Pian dell'Arma - climbing area". You have to go to the Refuge’s park (33 km from the Albenga motorway exit). From the parking lot take the uphill gravel road that leads to the obvious cliffs
